Tiptree Tea Room and Visitor Centre
The Tiptree tea room and visitor centre is open seven days a week, closing only for the Christmas break. Click on ‘Visit Tiptree’ or call 01621 814524 for detailed information. The tea room offers traditional table service in comfortable surroundings. There’s top quality food with a wide range of ‘Tiptree’ products. Wherever possible, we source our ingredients from local suppliers and we prepare and cook the food on the premises.
During the summer months, you are welcome to eat outside on the terrace. It’s a regular sun trap and is the perfect place from which to watch the comings and goings of the factory and the visitor centre.
The tea room serves a range of cooked lunches, sandwiches, hot and cold snacks, and home-baked cakes. Try the special: ‘Tiptree’ Strawberry Conserve with home-made scones and fresh cream, served with the ‘Tiptree’ tea of your choice.
Almost-forgotten delights. When did you last have a simple jam sandwich? Remember how good it was? If you’d like us to make one specially for you, just ask; and if you don’t like pips, that’s fine we have raspberry seedless conserve and other preserves without pips.
The John Wilkin Collection is a great place to trace the history of Wilkin & Sons and Tiptree preserves, find out more about village life in Essex, and of course to find out all about jam-making. True, it isn’t the world’s largest museum, but then neither is Tiptree the world’s largest village. Actually we take that back, it IS Britain’s largest village!
There’s a ten-minute video show to give you a flavour of jam-making – you’ll get a chance to find out what it is that makes ‘Tiptree’ products special. And there’s a short audio introduction from John Wilkin. ‘Mr John’ as he was known worked with his wife Daphne to create the first ‘Tiptree’ museum in 1985. The jam shop carries the full range of ‘Tiptree’ products as well as other local foods, souvenir items and other gifts. Here too you can place your order for ‘Tiptree’ home delivery. www.redmoped.co.uk delivers Tiptree and other high quality foods worldwide – what a great idea for a gift, delivered direct to your friends and family at home.
We’re easy to find and there’s plenty of parking, with larger than usual spaces. Coach tours and parties are welcome, although telephone notification of large groups is appreciated. To arrange a group visit, please refer to the ‘Contact us’ page of this site.
The Tiptree visitor centre is located in the grounds of the jam factory. Follow the brown signs from the A12 at Kelvedon to Tiptree, head through Tiptree village centre on Church Road, then turn right into the visitor centre 100 yards past the large black gates with WILKIN & SONS over them.
Access: we have facilities for wheelchair users including hard-surfaced parking, toilet, ramps and access to all areas of the visitor centre.
